An Update On 1099.is – 42 Million People Are Currently In The Independent Workforce

For those who don’t know, 1099.is is a website that helps everyone involved in the sharing economy (and more broadly freelancers, micro-entrepreneurs) answer their most common questions about taxes. This isn’t a small group: Freelancers Union estimates that 42 million people are currently in the independent workforce.

More than ninety days later, it’s clear that 1099.is has had a positive impact. While the objective was obviously to help Airbnb hosts, Lyft drivers, Etsy sellers, etc. figure out their taxes, we also wanted to open up a conversation about the infrastructure that is needed for this space.

And it’s working!

We’ve talked to lots of people and have even found volunteers who will help us as 1099.is expands. Right now, we’re working on updating the website to address the most pressing questions submitted by users. And there’s been no shortage of questions.

Come check it out! And please let us know if you have any questions of your own.
